Season Update

Parents and Players...

The start-up of our season will begin the week of September 21st as the second ice surface is being laid this week.  Lists of player names and ice times will be posted by this weekend.  Due to the Essex arena being under repair, all Thunder players will be skating out of the Lakeshore Arena.    We have just been approved by the OWHA to start our season with strict guidelines and there is a full list of protocols by the town to enter, use and exit the ATC (see links below).

We ask that you read and sign the forms from the town’s protocols which is mandated to be filled in and presented the first time your player comes into the building.  Please print off and sign these forms so that you will not have to do that on your first day at the rink.  These only need to be filled out one time.  Other health questions will be asked every time the player enters the rink along with a list for contact tracing.  At this time, there are NO spectators allowed, so it is imperative that your daughter can tie her own skates or that you do this outside the arena and have good skate guards for her.  Players must provide their own labelled water bottle and we ask that you put their names on the front of their helmets so the coaches can address the girls from a distance while on the ice.  Girls also need to bring a numbered jersey until the teams are formed because we are not allowed to share bibs for the evaluations.   Dressing rooms are open only for skate tying and bag drop, not for changing so they must come and leave as fully dressed as possible.  Masks must be worn by those entering or leaving the building but can be removed while on the ice.  More info in the links below.

What will our season look like?

There will be having evaluations and skills training for the first 2 weeks mandated by the OWHA, 3v3 or 4v4 game play will begin after that time.  We are not permitted to change our plan at our discretion. We must follow all OWHA guidelines.  At this time, there will be no activities between girls associations.  All activities will take place within our own association(Essex Thunder and Lakeshore Lightning). Once the small  teams are made, players will be placed into 50 player bubbles where they will remain for the season or until permission is given to expand or dissolve the player bubble.
