Lancers on the ice at tryouts
As a kick-off to our partnership with the University of Windsor Women’s Hockey Program , we are pleased to announce that Coach Deanna and hometown Lancers Ashley and Amy Maitre will be on the ice at tryouts over the next few weeks providing insight and running on-ice evaluations with our travel coaches.
Amy Maitre played 5 seasons with the University of Windsor Lancers, maintaining Academic All-Canadian status throughout and serving as Assistant Captain from 2019-2022. Amy graduated from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics: Honours Kinesiology with Movement Science and has completed her Coach 1 and Coach 2 certifications through Hockey Canada. Born and raised in Maidstone, Amy is looking forward to working with the girls of Lakeshore/Essex to help them achieve their full potential.

After serving as Assistant Captain in 2018/19, Ashley Maitre went on to Captain the Lancers from 2019-2022. Earning Academic All-Canadian status through her 5-year playing career, Ashley graduated with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics: Honours Kinesiology with Movement Science, Co-operative Education. During this time, she has also completed her Coach 1 and Coach 2 certifications through Hockey Canada. A product of Belle River District Minor Hockey, Ashley is excited to be involved with development of local girls as they pursue their hockey goals.

Deanna Iwanicka is the head coach of the Lancer Women’s Hockey program. Widely regarded as one of the top collegiate women's hockey coaches in Western Canada, Iwanicka joined the Lancers in 2018 after spending ten seasons leading the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Ooks women's hockey team. During her tenure, she guided NAIT to three consecutive ACAC championships from 2013-15 and was named the ACAC coach of the year in 2010 & 2015. As a player, the Alberta native won a USPORTS National Championship and two Canada West titles with the University of Alberta Pandas women's hockey program. Coach Iwanicka graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Physical Education as well as a Bachelor of Education. She has also completed her High Performance Coaching Certification, in addition to a Master of Arts, with a Specialization in Coaching, from the University of Alberta.
